Rainierbooks | Fokker 50 - PopulAir - A Trip from Stockholm to Vilhelmina and back @Rainierbooks | Uploaded May 2024 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Join me on a short trip from Stockholm to the town of Vilhelmina in Northern Sweden. The plane is a turboprop-powered Dutch Fokker 50 (Fokker went bancrupt in 1996 and that was the last year that this model was built). Swedish PopulAir is the last airline in Europe that flies Fokker 50. They run routes such as Gällivare–Kramfors–Arlanda and Hemavan–Arvidsjaur–Vilhelmina–Lycksele–Arlanda and operate 7 Fokker 50 planes.
Outside Europe only Skyward Express in Kenya uses Fokker 50. They operate 5 Fokker 50 and have had three accidents with their airplanes in 2012 and 2014.
The Swedish PopulAir was called Amapola until 2023. It acquired its Fokker 50 planes from different sources, the latest from Leading Edge Air Service in the Philippines. Earlier Fokker 50 planes that now run for PopulAir were bought in Mongolia, Spain, Angola, and Indonesia.
