Flotsam and Jetsam were falling apart… again.
By 2010, the Arizona thrash metal veterans had already survived countless lineup changes, label problems, and the dramatic shifts in the metal world. But The Cold would mark another major turning point for the band.
In this episode, we look at the story behind The Cold, beginning with the release of Once in a Deathtime in 2008 and the writing and recording of the band's tenth studio album. We explore the darker, heavier and more technical direction of The Cold, its key tracks, and how fans and critics reacted to one of Flotsam and Jetsam's most ambitious albums.
But the music is only part of the story.
Michael Gilbert returned to the band, Ed Carlson temporarily stepped away before returning, and eventually Mark Simpson and Craig Nielsen would leave. By the end of the The Cold era, Flotsam and Jetsam looked very different.
And those changes would set the stage for the next chapter: Ugly Noise.
