Liverock from Key West, Florida - our Key West ROCKS are sustainable liverocks from mariculture in the USA. They are real, natural coral rocks - but fossil from the quarry, so that no natural stocks are endangered. These rocks are characterized by a very high porosity and low weight. Afterwards they spend 20 years in the sea on a mariculture area, where they are colonized with enormous amounts of microorganisms, pink coralline algae, sponges, higher algae and also deeply penetrated with all kinds of beneficial filter bacteria - indistinguishable from conventional liverock. The growth is phenomenal, especially with fresh stones. Top for new tanks or for refreshing!
We keep our rocks in a spray system, so that the stones remain constantly coated by a water film - so the bacteria remain fully active, because the fine pores in the rocks are continously washed free. The growth decreases with time, so that older stones have less high algae, but are perfectly preconditioned.
