Florida Family Gathering Went Wrong
In January of 2016, 31 year old Robert Banks was lured to a Lakeland, Florida home under the guise of a deal. He was met by five assailants, including his recent ex-girlfriend’s three sons, who beat him mercilessly with their fists and a metal pipe. Banks attempted to flee through a window, but failed to escape his captors. The beating continued until Banks passed away. Brothers Brian, Nathan, and Anthony Johnson carried out the attack with the help of family friend Michael Gunn after their mother accused Banks of assaulting her. After ending Banks, the Johnsons called their father, Brian Johnson Sr, who helped them transport the body to Sumter County. They doused the remains in gasoline and set them on fire, but failed to cover up the crime. The Johnson brothers, their father, and Michael Gunn were all charged in connection with the unaliving. Johnson Sr pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact in a capital case, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a dead human body. He received an eight-year prison sentence in exchange for his guilty pleas. Nathan Johnson was sentenced to 75 years in prison due to his age at the time of the homicide, while Brian Johnson, Anthony Johnson, and Michael Gunn were convicted of first-degree unaliving and sentenced to life without parole.
