'Floral Derrangement' is a public sound installation created specifically for BRASS 2011. Inspired by a recording of the popular piece of music 'The Floral Dance', performed by Brighouse and Rastrick Band in 1977, Scanner has replayed and stretched the song to 130 times its original length, adding new melodies, playing new brass parts in a fresh arrangement of a classic English folk tune.
The work was discretely installed on Kingsgate Bridge, Durham, UK for the Brass Durham International Festival 2011 and played from morning until night, surprising passers-by as well as colluding with local bird song and the cathedral bells regularly peeling out.
This languid, epic piece of music created harmonies that are stretched beyond comprehension with ethereal oceanic effect to produce a new digital interpretation of this popular tune.
