This is π©π€π§π€ π£ππππ¨ππ, a memorial service for the spirits of the deceased. It takes place on the last night of Obon, a three day Japanese holiday where spirits return to this world to visit their families and loved ones. Illuminated lanterns float down the river, guiding souls back to the other world.
At the Morikami, we set alight a large lantern filled with π©ππ£π―ππ πͺ, paper slips inscribed with messages from our guests to their departed loved ones.
