Mucor species has been implicated in a disease known as Black Fungus Disease, a disease which can manifest itself in the immunocompromised. It has been known about for some time and came recently into prominence during the last pandemic. Mucor is a common and ubiquitous soil inhabiting fungus. It is one of many fungal species responsible for the breakdown or organic matter in nature. Here we can see it sporulating as it breaks down some vegetable matter and yet at the same time it is "predated" upon by mites! The mites appear as "Langoliers" readily consuming the sporulating fungi.
