This video is a play-through of Flea's bassline from 'Stretch', a relatively obscure Chili Peppers track that was recorded in 1995 during sessions for the One Hot Minute album. Flea plays a fingerstyle funk groove throughout the song, peppering the line with some intricate open string-based fills. This song is a lot of fun to play once you get it down.
I recorded this line using a 1966 Fender Jazz bass strung with new Rotosound strings and a low action. The bass was recorded via a SansAmp Bass Driver DI, all controls set flat. A small amount of compression was added digitally.
