SCROLL DOWN FOR THE TEXT OF JERAN'S CHALLENGE.

Last week Jeranism challenged folks to try to record circular star trails using a globe model, so I figured I'd give it a go. Here is documentation of my efforts. Enjoy! :-)

TEXT OF JERAN'S CHALLENGE (from the "original challenge video" linked above) Timecodes are in minutes and seconds. The important "meat" of the challenge are at times 19m 59s and 21m 53s. There is never, ever any mention of tilt. :-)

Below are Jeran's words, transcribed (some paragraphs removed so YouTube would permit me to save it, it was too long when I copied the whole thing)

To prove me wrong, would be very simple. All someone would need to do is model it. Now I don’t mean model it in a 3D program. I don’t mean model it in a planetarium. I don’t mean model it in a video game. I don’t mean in Kerbal Space. I don’t mean on paper and pen. I mean: model it. I don’t mean, put a camera out at the north pole star tonight, and show me time lapse footage. I know that can be done, that is what my senses tell me: that I can put a camera pointed at the north pole star, and get time lapse images of the stars circling Polaris.

But which method is used? Are the stars moving while the camera is stationary? Or are the stars stationary while the camera is moving? You’ll see in this little image, the same kind of idea of what we got with the Lego camera pointed up, and showing the North Pole, but if you look at this movement, this would not create star trails.

Now here comes the last and final part of this video, and I told you I’d move a little bit quicker, and I wasn’t lying.

17m 14s
And so we’re now at the challenge, and the challenge is quite simple, and again, this challenge goes out to many people, I’ll name some of them in a second. But I want to make sure there’s some ground rules and that everyone understands.

First of all it does not count to model it with the person at the North Pole. Nobody’s arguing the fact that if we were spinning, and somebody was located at the north pole, that they would see exactly what we would see, when we take star trail footage. Nobody’s arguing that point. But anywhere else, in the Northern Hemisphere, if you have a camera, that’s on a tripod, that is pointed at the North Pole star, and the Earth is spinning, we would not get time-lapse images like we see from every photographer across the plane.

So this is part of the reason I disagree with the heliocentric model. I don’t care about thousands of years of science. I don’t care about who says what. I don’t care Bill Nye says this. I don’t care that Copernicus did this and I don’t care that Aristothanes [sic] measured it in 325 BC, don’t care, doesn’t matter.

18m 19s
What matters is, can you model, what we see in reality, on what we’re told we live on, in reality? We’re told we live on a ball. That ball spins. So that’s what someone needs to model to me.

Again, do not bring Kerbal Space program, do not bring drawings, do not bring mathematics. This is something that needs to be modeled. And if it cannot be modeled, well I’ll get to that in a second.

First, this challenge goes out to all those people who think I’m an idiot. And that is quite a large number of people. So, can you prove me to be an idiot? Well, you can definitely prove me to be wrong. That’s easy. Doesn’t mean that if you prove this that means we live on a ball, doesn’t mean that. But it means that, one of the things that I think is a pretty big deal about my belief that the Earth is not what we’ve been taught, would be proven to me to be otherwise.

So that’s your opportunity. Also, whoever can explain it, I would gladly place your video, or if you want to do a hangout, or a one-on-one interview, whatever, I’d be glad to promote you on my channel, put your video up and show everybody, hey, this is why I was wrong, this is why we see star trail images and why they work on a modeled, ball Earth.

I want a modeled reality, kind of like what I did, which was I put the ball Earth, the globe, and I put a laser pointer on it, which can act as the camera, pointed it at Polaris, and I cannot get it to stay on there, when we are spinning.

21m 53s
Show me, somehow. Put a camera on a ball, put a mini camera on a ball, spin the ball, and show me that that camera stays pointed at Polaris.

So, be kind to each other, don’t lie to each other, and trust your senses, because they’re not lying to you, but I’m pretty sure somebody else is. Open your mind, there’s truth inside. Till next time, this has been Jeranism. Peace!
