We’re John and Tara Newby, parents to Crusoe and Sawyer, and the family behind The Newbys YouTube channel.
In 2022, we bought an abandoned farm in Northern Portugal and began the challenge of renovating it into a sustainable, off-grid stone house. Along the way, we’ve been sharing our journey — the highs, the lows, and everything in between — with our loyal community online.
You may also know us from Channel 4’s Help! We Bought a Village, where we feature as one of the families bringing life back to forgotten places. Unlike other families on the series, it’s our children — Crusoe and Sawyer — growing up as part of this adventure.
