Iain Petrie | Flash Gordon (1954) TV series in colour! The Claim Jumpers, Part 1, Steve Holland & Irene Champlin @IKP1000 | Uploaded July 2022 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
This is the 1954 TV version, made in W Germany, with Steve Holland as Flash Gordon and Irene Champlin. I have several episodes but not the whole series of 39!
The originals are in B&W but I am colourising the few episodes I have.
I'm using Deoldify, which struggles with longer pieces, so I've done it in 2 parts. This is Part 1. Part 2 is linked at the end of the video, or can be accessed here: youtu.be/vL2UTKJ0X8Q
Luckily it seems the episodes are "stand alone" and can be watched without needing to see the previous episode, and without the Cliffhangers of the original 1936-1940 series of 3 with Buster Crabbe. This is episode 6 The Claim Jumpers, "Flash and his cohorts come to the aid of a prospector and his daughters who are threatened by claim jumpers."
"Space hero Flash Gordon and his crew of the Galaxy Bureau of Investigation patrol space, battling space monsters, power-mad alien dictators and other threats to the stability of the universe." (IMDb)
"Diverging from the storyline of the comics, the series set Flash, Dale Arden and Dr. Zarkov in the year 3203. As agents of the Galactic Bureau of Investigation, the team travels the galaxy in their ship the Sky Flash, battling cosmic villains under the order of Commander Paul Richards.
The series proved popular with American audiences and critical response, though sparse, was positive. Flash Gordon has garnered little modern critical attention. What little there is generally dismisses the series, although there has been some critical thought devoted to its presentation of Cold War and capitalist themes." (Wikipedia)
