Flash flooding and mudslides in Nepal’s northern Rasuwa district near the Tibet border have killed at least 160 people, with hundreds more reported missing as rescue crews race to reach cut-off communities.
The flooding hit Wednesday after what officials described as a sudden surge in the Bhote Koshi River, affecting Rasuwa as well as the neighboring Nuwakot and Dhading districts. Officials said the surge damaged homes, roads, bridges, power infrastructure and hydropower facilities.
Authorities listed over 400 people as missing, including 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals. Officials said the figures are preliminary.
