Historical Flags of Chile: The flag of Chile was adopted in 1817. The Chilean flag is also known in Spanish as La Estrella Solitaria (The Lone Star).
The star represents Venus, which is significant to the country's indigenous Mapuches and symbolizes a guide to progress and honor; blue symbolizes the sky and the Pacific Ocean, white represents the snow-covered Andes, and red represents the blood spilled to achieve independence.
The colors of the Chilean flag were derived from the flag of the Mapuche troops during the Arauco War.
