Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) of Phoenix, Maryland, USA (acting as Explosives Subcontractor to the Main Demolition Contractor, The Robert Clay Company of Baltimore, Maryland) performs the preparation for and explosives felling of three (3), 14-story, reinforced concrete, low-income housing apartment buildings in Baltimore, Maryland on February 10, 2001. The 10-second implosion of 300,000 feet of structures not only saved the Baltimore Housing Authority significant funds over conventional demolition costs, but dramatically reduced the duration of dust, noise and demolition risk exposure to the low-income neighborhoods surrounding the Flag House project site. Dust from the implosion was cleared in a a matter of hours allowing traffic, businesses and community services to return to normal.
