An animation made for "American: The Bill Hicks Story," a biographical film covering the late comedian's life. The portrait of Bill was shot on Palm Beach in 1989, and in typical Hicks style, when (inspired by two of his popular bits) I asked if he'd light a cigarette with a burning flag, he immediately said "Yes! But I'd rather you'd shoot a picture of me pulling a knotted flag out of my ass!," referencing the First Amendment conflict over a controversial National Gallery Exhibit of photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.
