In 2003, a philosophy paper by Nick Bostrom became wildly popular at the same time The Matrix was ascendant in popular culture. Ever since then, there have been whispers and rumors that we are in a simulation and that everything is an illusion.

Physicists like @SabineHossenfelder are unimpressed, and the lack of metaphysical meaning offered by Bostrom's theory has left it somewhat rootless in Western thought. However, applying Karl Friston's "Free Energy Principle", @JordanBPeterson's "Maps of Meaning", and Psalm 19 gives us a much more interesting - and inspiring - reason for this "simulation".
