In the years that followed the nuclear accident at Chornobyl, the focus shifted to a single challenge: containing what remained inside Reactor 4. In Part 2 of our series, 'Fixing Chornobyl', we follow the lengthy effort to secure the site, from the hastily built sarcophagus to the design and construction of the New Safe Confinement.

The EBRD’s work in Chornobyl is currently supported by the European Commission, France, Norway, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, the TaiwanBusiness-EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund, Belgium and Italy.

We are grateful to the Government of Ukraine and the Nuclear Power Plant.
