The fuel door on my BMW was no longer connected to the gas cap, and needed to be fixed. To repair, I ran adhesive lined heat shrink tubing along the broken connector, and shrunk it into place. This may not be a long term solution, but it sure beats going to the BMW dealership for maintenance. If you have a similar problem this is a great car maintenance for beginners task as its low risk, and you don't need much in the way of tools. I'm using a Snap-On Butane powered heat source for this project, but there are definitely cheaper options.
