I figured I might as well post the whole process of fixing this fan. To make a long story short, your remote controlled ceiling fan lights are not working *probably* due to a broken SCR in the control box. Replacing it with a new one should fix that. As well, there is a device called a wattage limiter that can be removed, as it not useful and causes more problems than it fixes.

Stay tuned for my next video on DIY Schlieren photography! I will be using it to take pictures of the air currents produced by high voltage discharges.
