The term "lazy eye" is the catch all term for a condition called amblyopia. A lot of time think of a lazy eye as being an eye turn in one eye, either in, our, up, or down. An eye turn can cause a lazy eye, but there are other causes as well. A common cause is a larger refractive error in one eye, most commonly more farsightedness or astigmatism in one eye. This is called refractive amblyopia. An eye turn, or strabismus, causing a lazy eye is called strabismic amblyopia. There is also amblyopia that can be caused by deprivation, or something covering the eye during development. The development of amblyopia needs to be caught and treated early in life or it could cause a permanent amblyopia later in life. Patching, eye drops (atropine), and vision therapy have been common treatments, but compliance is an issue. This is where luminopia can help, showing larger compliance and satisfaction rates, with improvement in amblyopia outcomes.
