In Five Nights at Freddy's 2, the old and aging animatronics are joined by a new cast of characters. They are kid-friendly, updated with the latest in facial recognition technology, tied into local criminal databases, and promise to put on a safe and entertaining show for kids and grown-ups alike!
What could go wrong?
As the new security guard working nights, your job is to monitor cameras and make sure nothing goes wrong after-hours. The previous guard has complained about the characters trying to get into the office (he has since been moved to day-shift). So to make your job easier, you've been provided with your very own empty Freddy Fazbear head, which should fool the animatronic characters into leaving you alone if they should accidentally enter your office.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. I’m just gonna say it - in my opinion the worst game in the series. Almost everything here has aged horribly. Case in point number 1 - the gameplay, or should I say the lack thereof. This sure is some thrilling gameplay. I love holding down the mouse button to increase a meter that counts down to my death. I love how every camera but one is practically useless unless you use some hyper skill strategy. I love how all but 2 character function basically the same way. It’s all just garbage, no thanks to Mr. Cawthon’s rush to get the game out for the hype.
Second - the atmosphere. It’s fine enough, but it doesn’t even come close to the first game, and it’s mostly ruined by the danger ambience that became a meme. The regular ambience that plays throughout the nights is actually quite good and atmospheric, but it’s covered up by the fan and the aforementioned meme ambience.
Now I will say it’s not all bad. Withered Freddy and Withered Bonnie are my two favourite characters in this game, and the latter is one of the best character designs the series has seen to date. Also, custom night has some of the coolest unlockables in a video game. I mean, plushies for your work desk. That’s awesome. FNaF 1 does have them too, but they don’t fit in as well and they’re in-game purchases instead of unlockables. That’s at least one thing FNaF 2 does right.
I also won’t deny that this game had a huge influence on the community. FNaF 2 still to this day serves as inspiration for fan content, and it’s rather impressive.
As a whole though, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 just flops. I wouldn’t even call this a finished game. It’s a half-baked product that was rushed out because Scott simply couldn’t take his time. He thankfully learned his lesson since.
Side note: I wasn’t intending to publish this on the 11th anniversary of this game, but I realised in the nick of time that it was coming up, so I figured it would be appropriate. Happy anniversary FNaF 2 I guess.
