Another instrumental that was written specifically for the The Gravedigger's Fern video game most likely will not ever see the light of day. This one is the battle theme!
I'd like to know what you guys think of the battle system I was thinking of, because I was having a really hard time coming up with it. Battles aren't really an important aspect of the game with a few exceptions, and there won't be a whole lot of battling in general outside of boss battles, so I'm trying to go for something fairly simple. There are two types of damage: physical and emotional. Cedar specializes in physical damage and Fern specializes in emotional damage. Certain restless souls are weak to either type of damage.
Physical damage is, well... Cedar's shovel isn't just for digging, you know? But emotional damage is more like... It's not really "damage," per se. It's more like giving the soul what it wants to receive. Soothing words, physical comfort, whatever. Just soothing it enough that it can put itself to rest peacefully. I don't know how much that will be reflected in the game or the battle system, but that is the Lore I have for that.
To be clear, this game is in the *extremely* early stages, so anything I say about it is extremely rough around the edges and subject to change. I guess I can't say this is my first game (shoutout to Rose) but I mainly did art for that game even though I was technically supposed to code as well. And that game was more of a proof of concept for a high school class than a full-fledged game. So basically, I have my work cut out for me and finishing this game is very unlikely, if only because I'm very inexperienced and also very employed. It's not even really a time issue, it's just so hard to put energy towards something as challenging as developing a video game when all my energy was zapped from being at work for 9 hours a day. I really do want to finish this game, though! I work on it a little bit at a time when I have the spoons really. And that's why I'm posting this today. I was working on music.
On God, if you're making a video game that could use some weird, surreal, and/or orchestral music, hit me up. I can't guarantee I'll say yes but I just want to write music for a video game so bad.
