In this episode of Burbex, Brin is joined by his loyal dog Qinka, screaming American Sam as they explore an abandoned complex which was intended to house hundreds of elderly people. The project turned sour in the early 2010s when corruption charges were filed against the company, so that now the buildings are referred to as “black money homes”.
These days the site harbours fishermen and farmers who make full use of the surrounding land, use the buildings for storing buoys and floats, and in some cases squat in the half finished buildings. Brin talks with some of the people and learns about hoes and floats.

These old abandoned steam engine trains have been left to rot on the outskirts of Shanghai, and despite efforts to turn these steam locomotives into a small tourist attraction, the trains are still rusting and lonely.
