Drains constructed under the provincial Drainage Act can be found in all areas of Ontario. Fisheries and Oceans Canada works with municipalities to classify drainage channels based on the fish and fish habitat that exists in each channel to provide certainty on what activities municipalities can do to maintain these drainage channels while maintaining fish habitat so that the channel benefits both farmers and fish.
