An 80-year-old rain tree has been ordained at the Bangkok residence of US Ambassador Sean K. O’Neill in the first such ceremony held there since the property began serving the US mission in 1947.
O’Neill joins Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and Buddhist abbots in wrapping saffron cloth around the tree, symbolising its protection and preservation.
The ceremony also draws attention to efforts to protect Bangkok’s mature and heritage trees.
