“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out. Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out. Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out. Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me.”

These words come from Pastor Martin Niemöller, a German clergyman who lived through the rise of Nazi Germany. He wrote this after realizing how silence and fear allowed oppression to spread.

It’s a timeless warning…when we stay quiet while others are targeted, we’re helping build the silence that will one day swallow us, too.
