Did you know the 511 wasn't Tek's first product?!
First, here's a fun fact: 🧠 The Tektronix 511 Oscilloscope was so popular that advertising wasn't even necessary upon its release. Also, this vintage 511 is 72 years old and still working!
But Tek's first product, dating back to November 1946, the Type 101 Video Calibrator actually holds the title as Tektronix's very first product. 🤯 Built to test the 511 oscilloscope, they introduced this as the Type 101 Video Calibrator — a square wave generator. They built a total of 10 instruments and sold none! Tektronix's first product was a flop. However, it was successful in getting manufacturing ready for the Type 511 oscilloscope.
But, as we all know, innovation requires failure! We like to say "fail fast". We test our ideas and iterate quickly when things don't work. That's engineering!
