A 141-member advance rescue team reached Xizang’s disaster-hit Gyirong Port on Thursday morning, joining urgent relief operations after a massive mudslide left at least three people dead and 558 others missing along the China-Nepal border. Triggered by severe upstream flooding on Wednesday, the torrent buried core port infrastructure, severed mountain access roads, and trapped 260 foreign nationals among the missing.
A multi-branch emergency effort led by the PLA Western Theater Command is deploying troops, aviation units, and specialized disaster crews. Teams are operating at altitudes above 4,300 meters, utilizing a Wing Loong UAV to restore communications while navigating damaged roads and unstable barrier lakes to reach the hardest-hit core zone.
