🚨 First Suppressor Transfer Without Form 4 Approval Since 1934
A major change in federal firearms law is now playing out in real time.
Just after midnight on August 13, 2026, GOA members Brandon Herrera and Wes Virdell received suppressors from Silencer Shop in Leander, Texas without completing the traditional ATF Form 4/NFA registration process. GOA says the transfers occurred at 12:01 a.m. Central Time and were the first of their kind since the National Firearms Act was enacted in 1934.
Who is currently covered?
This is not a blanket nationwide elimination of the Form 4 process.
Silencer Shop says the no-Form-4 process currently applies to qualifying suppressors and AOWs originating through Silencer Shop or participating Powered by Silencer Shop dealers in states where state law does not independently require the NFA registration process. Standard federal firearms-law requirements still apply.
What about SBRs and SBSs?
They are different. Silencer Shop says short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns still require a Form 4 in all states where they are legal because of a separate Gun Control Act requirement that was not eliminated by this ruling.
Could this still change?
Yes. This remains an active legal matter, and the federal government could still pursue further court action. Silencer Shop itself cautions that the legal landscape may change.
We’re also hearing unconfirmed reports that ATF officials may meet Monday to discuss implementation and guidance surrounding the ruling.
At this point, we have not found an official ATF or DOJ announcement confirming that meeting, so we are treating that information as a rumor until something authoritative is released.
