''Consistent Chris tastes glory''

The youngest rally crew in the world, (15 yr old Chris Ingram and 21 year old navigator Michael Gilbey) clinched their first rally victory at the Jack Neal Memorial Rally, Blyton.

The event, which was round five of the Kick Energy Acceleration TV Formula 1000 Junior Championship, saw Chris tackle one hundred miles of challenging stages on the two day event the most mileage on a Junior event to date. On the very first stage of the event Chris, and co-driver Michael Gilbey, suffered a puncture, gained on the same corner where 90% of the Junior field came to grief. This time however, the duo came off lightly, dropping just eleven seconds to the leader after the opening run.

Chris, in the distinctive sounding Citroen C1, immediately clawed back time, taking fastest time on special stage two, pulling himself back to second overall by the end of day one. Day two dawned with damper conditions than the previous day ended with, overnight rain resulting in a greasy surface, adding to the challenge of the event, with more than fifty stage miles remaining.

Immediately Chris picked up from where he left off on day one, taking a fastest time, the first of five during the days ten stages. The former rallycross driver was then able to capitalise from the retirement of rally leader Nick Cristofaro on the third stage of the day, moving into the rally lead. This is where Ingram and Gilbey stayed for the remainder of the event to clinch their first victory, having the luxury of being able to back off the pace on the final three stages to come home with an advantage of almost two minutes. After a string of second places during the opening four rounds of the championship, Chris was unreservedly over the moon;
This weekend has been the best weekend of my life commented the ecstatic youngster; We would have liked to have taken the lead having fought Nick for it, and we were both sad to see him retire in such frustrating circumstances. After the rally started with a puncture, we did question our luck, but we managed to hold it together on what was a very challenging event!

Not only did Chris clinch his first win in the Kick Energy Acceleration TV Formula 1000 Junior Championship, but he also finished a highly creditable 12th overall and took the first ever outright victory for the Citroen C1/Peugeot 107/Toyota Aygo variant of car. No mean feat for 1000cc car on Falken road tyres.

Chris, who now leads the championship by an impressive twenty-one points, would like to thank his co-driver, Michael, the Formula 1000 Club, Byron at MSR, the event organisers and finally, to his Parents for their continued support.

Next Event:
Caerwent Mid Summer Rally (20th June)
