Kyle Petty takes us back to LaVergne High School for the final onsite filming day of the Northern Tool Legends Build: Student Challenge, and the team is facing the biggest deadline yet: fire the bike up at high noon.
With mentor Billy Lane calling in help from some of the biggest names in the motorcycle world, the shop fills with legends who show up to teach, wrench, and push this build toward the finish line including Berry and Vivian Wardlaw of Accurate Engineering, Randy "Detroit" Hayward, Jon and Allen from Blockhead Moto, Hammer, eBay Jake, Bubba Boswell, Scott Parker, Northern Tool’s own engineering expert Matt Fronk, and the King of Flames Dave Perewitz.
Even with the momentum, the work isn’t done. The team battles CAN-BUS wiring constraints, radiator and battery placement, geometry targets (a 26° neck rake and 56" wheelbase), alignment issues, and last-minute fabrication (plus a rebuilt tank) just to make the start happen.
Will it run? Will it make it to the track?
Next stops for the Harley-Davidson Nightster: Billy’s shop for final track-readiness, a test at the Sons of Speed Nashville Short Track, a media reveal at the Northern Tool store in Murfreesboro, and the ultimate moment, unveiling the bike in front of thousands at the American Flat Track race on June 6th.
