That sword must be here somewhere in this castle, well where ever it is you must complete many trials in order to be able enough to wield it.
First Trial: Navigate the castle to find the inner chamber of the Firebrand Guardian.
Second Trial: Defeat The Firebrand Guardian, be careful he is immune to fire!
Third Trial: Collect his armor as a prize.
Fourth Trial: Go Beyond the chamber and collect the fragments of the Firebrand Sword
With some Careful smithing you are now able to use the Firebrand Sword
