I’ve been fire rolling the black mold off of bamboo and other woods for 10 years now. Of course, there’s also some wood fibers which are/is the “carrier”.
I use the entire cotton ball to create a larger diameter fire roll which allows the top and bottom boards to grip it well enough drive it. Too small of a diameter and the top board will just flatten and slide over the top of it.
