It has been over three years since Fire Emblem Three Houses was released, and while I’m not sure where those years went, 2023 is a GREAT time for a new Fire Emblem game. I LOVED Three Houses, and experiencing another awesome tale, with brilliant strategic combat, was something that I was not going to miss out on. Except that….. Where Engage absolutely excels in some areas, it quite clearly, falls short in others.

Over the past few years, the Trails series has become a hot topic for JRPG fans, with its many interconnected titles, that, to put it bluntly, all kick ass!
We’re now in 2024. Another year, another Trails game, but this one is different.
Trails through Daybreak is the newest installment in Falcons massive JRPG series, but is set in an entirely new location, and features a brand new cast of main characters, and this excited me so much. This new setting, and cast of characters, makes Daybreak a great entry point for Trails newcomers.

The Last Story is one of those titles that took me far too long to play.
Since its release on the Wii in 2012, I had always wanted to dive in, particularly because it was developed by Mistwalker, which of course, means that FF creator Hiranobu Sakaguchi is involved.
Sakaguchi aim was to create something new. Something new is exactly what The Last Story Feels like, as all these years later, I have still never experienced a combat system quite like.
So does the Last Story hold up to Sakaguchi’s other famous titles? Is it worth dusting off your Wii Wii to play? Let’s look into it!

Octopath Traveler 2 is finally here! That little JRPG that we loved so much in 2018, finally has a sequel! Now, I would definitely consider the original Octopath Traveller to be a ground-breaking JRPG, not only because it was the game that introduced the HD2D graphical style, but also because it really proved that people really want this sort of game.
Playing Octopath 2 was a no brainer for me, but the question is, did it live up to my expectations? In many ways; yes, but in other ways; nope! Octopath 2 plays things very safe, and provides an almost identical experience to the original in the series.

The Diofield Chronicle! I have a lot of thoughts on this one! Diofield was originally announced on March, 2022, and 6 months later, it arrived on all modern consoles and PC. This game is not the AAA title we’re used to seeing from Square Enix, and in many ways, this shows. The Diofield Chronicle has a LOAD of potential, but doesn’t quite reach the mark. There is enjoyment to be found here, but much of it is pretty short lived.

Since the release of Demon Souls in 2009, developers FromSoftware haven’t really changed up the formula much , and that’s absolutely fine.
Being the massive Souls fan that I am, I would buy any Soulsy title that these developers pump out, no questions asked.
But then the announcement for Elden Ring came. We were getting an open world style Souls game, with worldbuilding by Georg R.R. Martin. And that was it. That’s all it took to make Elden Ring my most anticipated game of the year. And I’m not the only one.
Yes, it’s a masterpiece. Yes, it will probably win GOTY, and yes, you should buy it….. Unless you’re not a fan of the genre. Watch this review to find out why!

Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the Ultimate JRPG. When you think about it, it really is. There is a complete focus on absolutely everything that makes the genre so great. Story, Characters, Exploration, world design, music, combat, growth mechanics. You name it, Xenoblade 3 goes all out. With such an incredible track record, I can’t deny that the Xeno series is up there with my favorite series of all time. Xenogears, Xenosaga, Xenoblade, they are all incredible JRPGs, in their own ways. If you’re a fan of JRPGs, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the reason why you’re a fan of JRPGs.

Baldur’s gate 3! The hype for this one was huge. It has been 23 years since the last mainline Baldur’s gate title, which is obviously, a really long time for series fans to wait. The game did things a little bit differently in terms of its release. The first portion of the game was in Early Release for nearly three years, and this allowed Larian studios to make the best product possible. This decision, certainly paid off, because Baldur’s gate 3 full release is absolutely sensational, and I would be surprised if it doesn’t take out the 2023 RPG of the year award.
There is so much about this game that is completely ‘next level’, going far beyond what other games of the genre have done in the past. Baldurs ate 3 is new bar, not only for CRPGs, but also story focused, decision based video games in general.
• While the game is not for EVERYONE, I have a feeling that most of you, are going to fall in love with it, just like I did.
