In the second and final part of my adventure along Bear Brook, I leave behind the familiar sights and step across that threshold into the unfamiliar, following the brook into the open countryside, in search of its source. What lies ahead is the unknown, filled with brambles, barbed wire fences, farms, muddy fields, and a surprising number of awkward detours.
This second half of my journey is a bigger challenge. I get scratched up, soggy feet, and briefly fear for my life when I hear unexpected animal sounds in the woods. But I also relish some moments of real calm, crystal-clear chalk streams, and that rare feeling of being properly off the beaten path, in a cosy bubble of adventure.
After more than five hours of walking and a lot of diversions, I finally reach Wellonhead Spring – the end of the journey, the main source of Bear Brook – and the ponderous, reflective reward at the end of a long, meaningful expedition.

Rush was good. Time to play an older one that perhaps inspired it. Its time for the legendary Scythe.
Scythe is a 32-level megawad released by Erik Alm on April 8, 2003.[1] The most distinguishing feature of Scythe is that most of its levels are smaller than average. It is widely considered one of the best DOOM WADs of all time.
