One of the great things about Zelda II is that some of its items and magic spells are multi-purpose. Decades before Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom allowed Link to fell trees with an axe, the hammer item in Zelda II had a secondary use: to clear entire tiles of forest on the overworld. This unadvertized skill is only hinted at by NPCs, but is a necessary step in finding the item necessary to reveal the last temple.
