Nick Heyward is one of the most distinctive voices to emerge from British pop.
Nick first rose to international fame in the early 1980s as the frontman, guitarist, and principal songwriter of Haircut 100, one of the defining bands of the post-punk, funk-pop new wave explosion. Their debut album Pelican West (1982) became a major UK success — a Platinum-certified record featuring classic singles such as “Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl),” “Love Plus One,” “Fantastic Day,” and “Nobody’s Fool.” These tracks cemented Haircut 100’s reputation as one of Britain’s most irresistible pop acts of the decade.
After leaving the band at the height of that success, Nick launched a rich solo career. His 1983 debut solo album North of a Miracle produced the hit “Whistle Down the Wind” and demonstrated his flair for melodic, introspective songwriting. Subsequent albums like Postcards from Home (1986), I Love You Avenue (1988), and From Monday to Sunday (1993) showed Nick evolving as an artist with ever-deeper songwriting and broader musical exploration.
Over the decades he’s continued to release acclaimed solo work — from The Apple Bed (1998) and Tangled (2002), to Woodland Echoes (2007) and Stars and Planets (2013) — each record revealing new facets of his creativity and craft.
In an extraordinary second chapter for Haircut 100, the band reunited with Nick and original members Les Nemes, Graham Jones, and Blair Cunningham. Building on renewed interest sparked by recent shows and singles like “The Unloving Plum,” they have announced their new studio album Boxing The Compass, due for release on March 20, 2026 — the band’s first full-length album with Nick in over four decades.
To celebrate the release, Haircut 100 will embark on a full UK tour in May 2026, kicking off on May 1 at London’s Palladium, reconnecting with long-time fans and introducing their classic and new material to a wider audience.
