Thomas Hill, famous painter;
Henry Blasdel, Nevada's first governor;
Joseph LeConte, founder of the Sierra Club;
Washington Bartlett, California's only Jewish governor;
Josiah Stanford, who was one of the first to have a commercial oil operation in California;
David Colton, an early railroad magnate;
John Coffee Hays, a Texas Ranger legend;
Harry Morse, famous western lawman;
John Marsh, early California settler and its first doctor who was murdered;
Henry Haight, a California governor;
Coles Bashford, a Wisconsin governor who was embroiled in scandal;
Julia Morgan, noted architect who designed the Hearst Castle;
George Perkins, California's 14th governor;
Samuel Merritt, Oakland mayor and namesake for Merritt Lake in Oakland.
