In this video, I’m reviewing the Aune N7, a compact and affordable discrete headphone amplifier and pre-amp that has truly surprised me. After years of following the brand, I feel like something has finally "clicked." At just $399, the Aune N7 delivers a massive 6.5W of power, making it a serious contender for the best headphone amp under $500.

I’ll be comparing it directly to the popular SMSL H400 and its bigger brother, the Aune S17 Pro EVO. While the SMSL offers a wider soundstage, the N7 provides a more natural, lifelike sound with impressive spatial depth and layering. Whether I was using the high-impedance ZMF Atrium or the planar Audeze LCD-5, the N7's high-bias mode offered a level of refinement usually reserved for much more expensive Hi-Fi gear. If you are looking for an audiophile grade desktop setup that prioritizes musicality over clinical precision, this might be your new go-to recommendation.
