Lowdown on the restrictions of this challenge:
Ability Nodes Only (ANO) - You can only activate ability nodes, no raising characters' stats in anyway.
Own Sphere Grid (OSG) - Each character may not leave their own section of the sphere grid. Note that these rules combined mean you can still use key spheres to e.g. teach Lulu Doublecast, Yuna Auto-Life etc.
No Summons (NS) - Self-explanatory, Aeons are OP meatshields
No Overdrives (NO) - Mainly for getting rid of Rikku's Mix, which is ludicrously OP
No Items (NI) - No using items, in or out of battle. Chakra Drops, Revival Beads, Megido Rocks, all those classic FF staples are banned (you can still customize equipment though)
Initial equipment:
Tidus: (Strength +3%, One MP Cost, First Strike) + (HP +5%, SOS Haste, Stoneproof)
Kimahri: (Piercing, First Strike, Initiative) + (SOS Regen)
Auron: (Piercing, One MP Cost, Evade & Counter, First Strike) + (HP +5%, SOS Haste, Stoneproof)
Wakka: (One MP Cost, Slowtouch, Slowstrike, Zombiestrike) + (HP +20%, SOS Haste, Confuseproof)
Yuna/Lulu: (One MP Cost, Magic Booster, Magic +20%, Magic +10%) + (Auto-Haste, SOS Reflect, Confuseproof, MP +30%)
Rikku: (One MP Cost, Magic Booster, Magic +20%, Magic +10%) + (Master Thief, Auto-Haste, SOS Reflect, Confuseproof)
Finally, a challenge! This fight was really intense and difficult. It took over 20 attempts, a few of which tragically ended ~25 minutes in. Coeurlregina uses Chaos 2/3 of the time, which inflicts confusion and doom on a character. The other 1/3 of the time she uses Hyper Blaster, an unblockable insta-kill move. We can block the effects of Chaos, although blocking doom would require Ribbon armours which are, uh, time consuming to farm in this challenge to say the least (it would take about 30 hours per armour.) In practice, doom is not that big a threat anyway, especially since she has no particular targetting script and will frequently Blaster characters before their doom countdown ends anyway. So we'll settle with just Confuseproof.
When she falls below half HP (~190k) she uses Chaos less often and starts using Drain 1/3 of the time. This means the team needs some magic protection. Auto-Reflect prevents you from reviving them with Life spells, so we'll have to settle with SOS Reflect. This can lead to sticky situations if you end up having to revive characters manually, since they'll come back at non-critical HP and be vulnerable to draining.
The general strategy is this: Yuna should apply Auto-Life every single turn she gets (order of priority: herself, Rikku, Lulu) unless everyone already has it. Leave manual reviving to Rikku if possible. Lulu should double Flare all day while Rikku Copycats. In the latter stages of the battle, if Yuna or Rikku are ever not on critical HP Lulu should double Demi the party to activate SOS Reflect. At some points you'll need zombie Wakka to come in and restore Lulu and Yuna's MP with Osmose - if necessary, have Yuna Pray beforehand to deactivate SOS Reflect. Ideally you want to top off their MP just as the Drain phase starts and then get the hell out of there, as it's more difficult to pull this off safely once she starts using Drain. They should have enough MP to finish her off from there.
The main issue with this fight is that kitty's just so damn fast - in fact she's one of the only fiends that's faster than Hasted Rikku and still possible to beat in this challenge. It goes on for so long that sooner or later you're gonna see 5-6 Hyper Blasters in a row, which often spells game over. It happens here from 26:30 onwards, but fortunately I pulled through this time. There's a really horrible few minutes starting around 11:50 too where she keeps killing Wakka after I brought him in to restore MP. This meant I had to reapply zombie before getting him out of there, which was tricky to say the least.
Overall this was a fun fight to figure out - one of the few arena creations that is possible but not cheesy as hell. There's one more of these coming up, and then it's meme strats all the way baby.
