Chapter 13 sees the party embark on a harrowing journey to the Temple of the Ancients on the Northern Continent to secure the Black Materia. The pursuit becomes a frantic race against the Turks, elements of the Shinra Army, and, most importantly, Sephiroth.

Inside the temple, the party faces confusing and dynamic architecture, reflecting the nature of the Ancients (Cetras) themselves. Aerith's role as the last Ancient comes to the fore, leading to massive discoveries about the origin of the Planet's greatest threats and the truth behind the promise of the Promised Land. The chapter culminates in a massive confrontation for the control of the Black Materia.
