We encounter the main boss of the cave, Gi Nattak.
This boss is an undead enemy, so a phoenix down or the spell Life can automatically kill him (although the chances of it hitting are very slim). If you do not want to go that route then you can use healing spells which do lots of damage. Gi Nattak is accompanied by Soul Fires that cast Fire 2, and inhabit your character's bodies. When a Soul Fire is in one of your characters it will cast Fire 2 repeatedly until that character is dead or very weak. Gi Nattak uses moves like Drain a lot, he's actually a lot less annoying than those Soul Fires. Having the Fire Ring accessory equiped is recommended (which I forgot to do).
After the battle Bugenhagen starts to explain why he lead them into the cave.
