Surprise, surprise!

(told you it wasn't the toy in the box)

This is the first part of an in-progress album I'm working on for the @Tsunamods Echo-S FFVII PC mod project. As the team is putting obscene levels of work into updating the rest of the game (including, but not limited to, higher-res custom character models, updated SFX packs, and even full recreations of the pre-rendered environments from the ground up to improve resolution and detail levels), obviously the soundtrack couldn't hurt to have an overhaul too. They've already made multiple soundtrack packages for the game from many talented artists, including my older run with 7's soundtrack, but as they've poured so much love and work into this I wanted to create another soundtrack explicitly for Echo-S and its team.

This is to say, rather than the previous music pack of mine they have (which was simply something I'd made that they found and wanted to use it), this album project is intended for Echo-S, and Echo-S alone. It only seems fair of me as a contributing member of the team (albeit VA and audio, which I consider "fringe" membership by comparison to the folks painstakingly ripping through code and modelling) that I give something back that I didn't just have lying about already.

The fun part is that, aside from a handful of tracks that have specific event timings ingame (i.e. Bombing Raid syncing to the train jump, Those Who Fight having its intro line up with the battle screen transition, etc.), I have loads more freedom to make deviations and more explorative arrangements from the originals -- a good bit of which are already on display in this group of tracks, which I hope people will enjoy as much as I did coming up with the changes and additions.

FF7R also played a big part in me deciding to do this, obviously, and my goal this time around is to (hopefully) have a full album of arrangements that meet somewhere in the middle - blending some of the stylistic choices in both the original and remake, while working to maintain the spirit of FF7 and what made it so deeply engrossing.

The existence of this project does not mean I have abandoned or shelved other larger-scale projects, either. The X3 Expansion will be completed eventually (but as the original goal was simply the main stages, finishing it out isn't a considerable priority), and FF6 will be worked on side-by-side with this project (now that I have my Celes singer again, this FF7 project was initially just meant to fill the interim until I had a singer back on board and I got her a hell of a lot sooner than I'd expected).
