Only in SNES/PSX. By manipulating your steps just precisely, you can skip right past Mist! In order to do this, stand right next to Mist, and press left and open the menu at about the same time. If you take a full step before the menu opens, you did it wrong. Look for a slight stutter to the left, which is key that you started this. Next, use a Tent, and then take one step to the right. If you did it right, you should be standing on top of Mist. Next, press right and open the menu at the same time, and if you get the stutter to the right again, save the game, then reload the file. If done right, you can just walk to the right and past Mist!!

Of note, going to Kaipo/Underground Waterway will lock up the game I do believe. You can enter Mist from the right side, allowing you to get all the items as well as visit the shops earlier than intended. If you leave from the right side, the game will place you on the left of Mist.
