The northernmost reaches of Alaska contain a vast expanse of tundra wetlands, which are home to some of the highest recorded densities of breeding shorebirds in the Arctic. This is "America's Arctic," and millions of birds from all over the world flock to Alaska's wetlands every year to nest and raise their young.
Come along with Cornell Lab, Center for Conservation Media photographer Gerrit Vyn as he travels to the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska near Teshekpuk Lake to capture images of some of the region’s most iconic bird species.
America’s Arctic is one of North America’s last great wilderness areas, a critical habitat for migratory birds from around the world, and a treasure to be protected for future generations.
The Department of the Interior has issued a new rule protecting 13 millions acres of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, and are soliciting public comments until Nov 7, 2023. Please consider adding your voice of support here: protectthearctic.org/cornell-lab .
