Until now, the only way to see how sound for film is produced was to be on the inside.
In this series, award-winning film mixer and Avid Audio Specialist Sreejesh Nair (Gangs of Wasseypur, The Legend of Maula Jatt) reveals the complete post-production workflow for film audio, showing both the artistry and the technical processes required for a great mix. See how dialogue, sound effects, foley and music follow their own journeys before coming together for the final mixing and mastering stages.
In this episode we join Sree in the mixing theatre, where he's setting up for the final mix. Sree explains how to configure the Dolby Atmos® renderer to create the final deliverables, and how he sets his console layouts to instantly recall his Pro Tools groups. He also shows how Pro Tools’ integration with SoundFlow allows him to add custom functions and Dolby Atmos® renderer control to the S6 console.
Download the Dolby Atmos® Film Mix Template
You can also download Atmos film mix template that Sreejesh Nair works from. 48k/24-bit, 24fps, built around the Pro Tools internal renderer with stem routing, VCA groups and print paths already wired up. The .zip also includes a list of plugins that he uses, and you can see the processing chain as well.
The download also includes the Avid S6 layout XML and which is also embedded in the .ptx session. If you're on an Avid S6 or S4 control surface, you'll get Sree’s worksurface layout, soft key setup and spill arrangement along with the session. You can use this as a starting guide and modify it as you need.
