The Taoist tradition flows back thousands of years, and it was expressed in the 6th Century BCE through the seminal philosophical work by Lao Tzu in his work the Tao te Ching. This short work is sublime and pithy. Yes, pithy and laconic. Poetic and terse. Sublime and concise. If some of these words have you searching for a dictionary, then that is part of the path. It's not an easy read, and each page could spawn new perceptions and notions. And that makes it a great work; it makes one think, reappraises the world around you. Modern Taoism has ventured off in many directions, like most of the religions of the world, so Stephen invites us to keep those popular (and superstitious) cultural traditions to the side … and let's step back in time to the original perspectives of Lao Tzu. Remember, the tao that can be expressed is not the eternal Tao.
