At an inaugural Summit in Cartagena, Colombia, OCCRP and Fundación Gabo launched Floodlight, Fiction in the Public Interest.
The long-term collaborative venture will nurture relationships between investigative journalists and filmmakers to spark storytelling that will further the impact of our reporting.
In Dec. 2023, journalists from 11 countries presented 14 investigations — some unpublished — selected from 270 initial proposals.
They shared details about their reporting in pitching sessions, one-on-one meetings, and networking events with filmmakers, screenwriters, and producers.
Film and TV industry participants included screenwriter Charles Randolph (Oscar winner for The Big Short), director and screenwriter Danis Tanović (Oscar winner for No Man’s Land), screenwriter Susannah Grant (Oscar-nominated for Erin Brockovich), and producer Janine Jackowski (Oscar-nominated for Toni Erdmann).
