Fine Homebuilding | FHB House 2023: A New Life for an Abandoned House @finehomebuildingmagazine | Uploaded July 2023 | Updated October 2024, 6 hours ago.
This year, the 2023 Fine Homebuilding House takes us to Cornwall, N.Y., and features an abandoned home being brought back to life. The original 1200 sq.-ft. single-story ranch was built in 1956 and had been abandoned for about 10 years—which meant no electricity, no running water, and no septic. Builder Jon Beer and his crew have set out to fully renovate the house and lot, adding a second-story addition and building a new shop/art studio. This project is even more special since it will be Jon’s house for himself and his family.
Join us as we cover the full project, from framing a second story on an existing house, understanding control layers on a remodel/addition, what systems and materials were chosen, and more.
