If I'm gonna fight Ruby and Emerald, I'm gonna need some stash from the battle arena. But wait, is that Yuffie you see fighting? Isn't she banned, and hasn't she used all her turns? She's only banned from boss battles, and the battle arena doesn't count. It's not often I get to do the battle arena in a challenge, so I wanted to include it just to show you how it's done.
The offensive strategy needs to be quick and effective, so we'll use a powerful multi-target spell linked to HP Absorb that we mime throug all the battles. You also need a defensive strategy to deal with as many handicaps as possible. The Minerva Band takes care of Fire, Ice, Gravity and Holy, and I gave her Added Effect=Hades and Added Effect=Mystify to deal with the worst statuses. You really need that Mystify combo, since you can run into several enemies that inflict Berserk. I also put Elemental=Lightning in the armor to take care of another element, but I couldn't get protection against Earth. I also use the Cursed Ring for boosted stats and you only get Death Sentence in the first battle, so you don't have to worry about that.
Even with all this protection, things can still go wrong. You absolutely cannot lose the yellow materia, and you want to avoid anything to do with HP. There are some dangerous enemies too, like the 8 eyes in battle 3. Even with over 1100 HP, they can one-shot you, so if they do get a turn before you, pray it's the MP attack. As for this run, I messed up the slots several times and lost my red materia early. That meant I no longer had Added Effect=Hades and was open to most statuses. Then I couldn't pick Frog after the 5th battle and lost my items. This is not a big deal unless I would be forced to lose all the materia before the final battle. Then I messed up again and lost my weapon, which is bad for the exact same reason. Without materia, I'd have to take down the final enemy with physical attacks. Thankfully, I could pick green materia only for the final battle. You have to pick either that or all materia, or else you get very few points.
So yeah, kinda easy, but a little risky. Next up: the special battle!
